WEEKS 13 & 14
SNOW AND CHALET REPORT
Les Arcs
It's summer time! And while the rest of
the world are off to war, we're definitely still enjoying
life in this crazy bubble. The snow from a couple of
weeks ago is long since forgotten as we've been enjoying
more boiling sunshine. The temperatures have been up
in the mid teens, even at 2000m, so the board park and
afternoon spring snow are the way forward. But, in spite
of lack of fresh powder, the conditions on the mountain
have remained good, with enough base to cope and the
board park looking great. Plus there's no-one around,
so the mountain's all ours.
We've been over to Tignes again for a
change of scene and to check out Gumby's big day out
(big air comp). The Tignes guys have also been over
here (twice!) to sample the night life in Vallandry
and do the proper Jimmy's-Marlu Tuesday experience.
Goddam Pizza Hut and genepi shots. Funky Biscus were
on fine form though. Particularly appreciated by Rob,
who was so lost in music, he joined the guys on stage
and did his very best to outdo the lead singer.
The apartment boys have been coming on
leaps and bounds with their boarding, as have Lou, and
Alison's sister Erica. Rhi, Ricardo and Alex are kicking
arse in the board park, and Jason's getting twice the
air everytime. Although his attempts at 180s are more
like 45s. Looking forward to that telemark lesson though.
Everyone's been off on road trips, with Dan heading
up to Chamonix for round 2 of the stag week, plus Jason
in Zermaaaaaaat with his buddies. Don't think too much
skiing was involved. Worrrd.
Looking forward to next week's Quikcup
in Les Arcs, followed by reports from the Brits in 2
Alps the week after.
Tignes
Over in Tignes, the guys have been rapidly
losing a few of their nine lives, with several near
death experiences. Daddy Cool managed the most impressive
rail slide of the season. Sadly, he hadn't managed to
attach himself to his board at the time. And even worse,
the rail he chose was actually the cable of the Val
d'Isere funicular. Excellent way to bring the train
to a halt, should you ever really need to. We're impressed,
but think there were a few red faces at the time.
Pete Orme also came close to serious injury
when someone's ski flew off a lift and nearly chopped
his head off. Luckily he's a machine and managed to
escape with nothing more serious than a quick passing
out, followed by a sore head.
Harris has been sessioning the board park
and getting some nice airtime. And the two Petes and
Chris are already planning their return to Tignes for
next winter. Oh dear god. Katie and Col have headed
home for the month - hope to see you in April. And James
has even been seen out on the mountain before 1pm. Well
done.
