WEEKS 7 & 8
SNOW AND CHALET REPORT

Les Arcs

The last two weeks rate up among the best fun we've ever had.

For a start, the snow's been consistently amazing. How much more of this crazy crazy deep powder can we take? When are we ever gonna have time to hit the board park? Or stop for lazy afternoons in the pub? Or eat? Or sleep?

And inspite of the hangovers, first lifts every day have been followed by last orders every night, as the month long kids have wound up their stays (Dave and James setting the pace, as ever). Plus, to add to the vibe, lots of last winter's Planet Subzero crew have been in town on holiday for a couple of weeks. Wicked to see Lyncher, Dec, Katie, Col, Derek, Damian, Susannah, Rach et al. The party atmosphere has been wicked.

Bowling in 1800 started the mission, keeping up last year's weekly tradition. Story of the week has to go to Mark, Dec's brother, who found himself waking up in a taxi at 5am ... the texts (in Irish accent) went something like ... "Dec - I'm still in the van. It's v dark + can't see much. I'm in a shed + there are lots of other vans. hanging tough til daybreak." Brave soldier.

Rob's last night on Saturday is a very big blur, starting with everyone dancing to the McDonalds song in Jimmy's and then finishing off with a party in chalet 14. Eleanor was so sad to see him go she was forced to rearrange the furniture, and then comitted ski suicide by skiing into Dave (resulting in a black eye and twisted shoulder).

Sam's back on the slopes now his knee's mended, and Simon's in his element with so much powder to ride. Jason's flying on his new skis (in spite of Tony's over-enthusiasm with the drill), and everyone's powder riding has come on leaps and bounds. Trees and flat bits, however, still seem to be posing a few problems judging by the random snow men seen emerging from the woods.

The torchlit descent on Wednesday night was a great night out, with 300 people riding down in the dark in a snowstorm after eating cheese and dancing on tables in the Arpette (it is organised chaos, honest). James - in sensible barrister mode, again, Olly, Simon and Darragh were the kings of jackass raclette, and set an Arpette record for eating the whole half moon. And Dave got into the true spirit of the event by stripping. Needless to say, none of the boys felt too good the next day.

The actual Huckfest was cancelled due to heavy snow, but Chris took on the role of Planet Subzero architect. The PS0 kicker (behind the chalet) has been beautifully sculpted, with James and Dave determined to nail the spins before leaving. Dave may look like he knows what he's doing in the photos, but James (the eagle) managed to pull of the first actual Les Arcs PS0 360. Simon had a bloody encounter with the bushes, Neils did an impressive attempt at a barrel roll (to head), and Katie landed her first kicker jump. Fortunately the landing was so soft, anything went.

Very sad to see James, Dave, Susan, Rob, Michelle and Bec leave. Bec was so distraught, she decided she couldn't handle it and only got as far as the station, before deciding to come back for another week. Guys ... I'm pickled ... and Michelle's coming back in a month for March, plus Rob in April. Looking forward to seeing you all again.

Look out for reports of slightly less carnage in coming weeks,
plus loads of new photos coming soon ...
