10th Feb 2002
THE INAUGURAL NAKED HUCK FEST

A few beers, BBQ in the sun, meet some people, listen
to top tunes,
and chuck yourself off a few jumps ...

The Naked Huck Fest was born from a desire to get all the people doing seasons in the Les Arcs area together, chill out, have a laugh and generally get to know each other.

Starting off cloudy, Friday morning (8th Feb) looked like it might snow, but the sun broke through by the afternoon, making for an awesome day ... Big thanks to the guys from the Mont Blanc - esp Gordy for building the jumps and to the chefs for sorting out BBQ for the starving masses! Plus much obliged to Chris Cracknell from Chillchalet for bringing his decks up from Bourg and doing a solid 5 hour slopeside session of top tunes.

All in all it was a great success - with a massive turnout of spectators from Vallandry, Nancroix, Bourg, and 1800, and over 50 competitors jumping for prizes in the following catagories:

>> Best Overall Jump
>> Best Costume
>> Most Naked
>> Worst Crash
>> Most original

As hoped, the standard was pretty varied, with a few serious entrants, but mostly people just in it for a laugh ... and a snowball fight.

>> Best Overall Jump - went jointly to Alex (staying in the Mont Blanc) for pulling off a smooth back flip and landing it in a superman costume, and to Gordy (Mont Blanc) for some nice 360s and 540s on skis ...

>> Best Costume and Most Naked (Joint prize) - went to Olly from Bourg - for turning up in his full postman outfit (good effort for bringing that away for the season!), and then doing his second jump completely naked ...

>> Worst Crash - should really have gone to the lad who thought he'd try a back flip off the big kicker having never done any jumping before. Unfortunately, he was forced to stand down from competition after landing on his head and being bodybagged off the mountain with a broken back. Fortunately he was extremely lucky and out of hospital the next day with a brace and lots of painkillers ... so not being around to collect his prize, next best stack went to Rhod from Planet Subzero for his spectacular somersault on landing!

>> Most original - goes to Caz from the Mont Blanc for getting into the spirit of the event, taking her top off and generally being a good boarder.

The prizes were kindly donated by Tracker. Cheers to everyone for turning up - we'll hopefully run another Huck Fest again towards the end of the season.
