A big appeal of an extended stay in the Alps is the
opportunity to really improve your skills. In a full
season you'll be able to get up to a whole new level
- one that you'd never achieve from just one week a
year on the slopes. So make the most of it.
Your best bet if you want to improve is to go out riding
with people who are better than you. Without putting
yourself in dangerous situations (!), you will naturally
pick up new skills by following better riders - as you
will subconsciously imitate their stance and line.
You may also really benefit from taking a couple of
hours of private lessons over the course of a few weeks.
You may just need to change the angle of your legs slightly
to improve your balance, or move your head and shoulders
in a different direction to complete a trick. And having
someone who's qualified giving you some pointers can
make all the difference.
If you decide to take a few lessons during your
stay, we recommend the following:
In Les Arcs, Courchevel and Meribel - contact New Generation
- www.skinewgen.com
In Chamonix, get in touch with Azzure - www.azzure.co.uk
For other resorts, drop us a line and we'll make
suggestions of the best people to contact.
Both companies will offer private and group lessons,
discounted seasonaire packages, and special events such
as avalanche awareness training, off piste clinics,
or technique and bumps sessions. Both are primarily
geared to skiers, but can help with snowboard lessons
too.
Don't assume you'll just get better - you do have to
work at it. But, the best thing is, if you keep going
at whatever you're trying to learn, you will get it
in the end - and have a great laugh in the process!
And there is nothing more satisfying than putting
your first turns in in powder, landing your first 360
or doing your first cliff drop ... it's what you're
here for so go for it and ENJOY!
